Rail Freight Corridor 2 (RFC 2) from Antwerp/Zeebrugge and Rotterdam to Basle/Lyon plays a major role when it comes to the shift of goods from road to rail: In 2017 it allocated 7.1 million kilometers-day to railway companies. This helps the rail freight traffic to constantly rise in the corridor. For 2016, again a significant rise was measured (+14% compared to 2013).
On 7 July 2017 Europe’s largest intermodal inland terminal at Dudelange in Luxemburg was inaugurated. It is built to accommodate up to 600‘000 units per year– half of them with horizontal and half with vertical handling. It will add a strong contribution to the shift of goods from road to rail in an important catchment area with many production facilities.
The trip took place from 20-22 September 2017. The kick-off at Basel was attended by over 30 media representatives and opinion leaders. Programme details can be found here.
